Metallica felt they needed to practice before the tour, and what would be better to do it in front of a crowd. This way they could test which songs would be best to do and to make the new bass player warm. The band rented The Fillmore in their hometown San Francisco and gave away free tickets to fanclub members and radio stations. The result was four nights with different setlists and different support bands.
