Battery
On our way to Berlin we listened to some 'regular' Metallica tapes,
Apocalyptica and a taped version of 1 hour of the new S&M album which
has been broadcasted one day before on NJoy radio's "V.I.P. Music"
broadcasting. So we arrived well tuned to the symphony show in Berlin.
But we had muddled a lot till we finally arrived in the Velodrome.
We thought that we where very late when we arrived there at 8:30 pm and
heared that Metallica already played, but someone of Metallica's staff
said us that Metallica just started a few minutes ago. So when I
finally arrived at my seat I could just listen to the end of the "Call
Of Ktulu". One the other site of the Velodrom somebody hold up a banner
which gratulated Kirk to his birthday. The following song was "Master Of
Puppets". Because I really like the 'silent' bass solo it was pretty
awesome that they played the full version. "Of Wolf And Man" was the
next song - it was cool when the Velodrom was filled with wolf howls
before the "I feel the chance..." part. With the orchestra the song "The
Thing That Should Not Be" became great - sounded almost like a song of a
movie soundtrack. After this song "Gimmie Fuel, Gimmie Fire..." were the
words with it suddenly "Fuel" announced itself - at that moment I
actually missed the pyros! Before the next song "The Memory Remains"
started Jaymz said to the audience that we should sing much louder - so
we did it. After the "Dada" part of "The Memory Remains". The first new
song "No Leaf Clover" was also good to join Metallica singing. "Hero Of
The Day" and "Devil Dance" sounded great with orchestra. After the
awesome song "Bleeding Me" the S & M made an intermission. That was the
right time for me to walk along the Velodrom to get a program booklet.
The first song of the 2nd half was "Nothing Else Matters" - actually
Jaymz didn't even need to sing because the audience was real great in
singing that song. "Until It Sleeps" and "For Whom The Bell Tolls"
followed. The second brand new song "- Human" was the next. "Wherever I
May Roam" was another great song to sing for the audience. The following
songs were "The Outlaw Torn" and "Sad But True". In the next song "One"
I missed the pyros again, although the effects of the light show were a
good replacement for that. After that song the symphonists stood up and
Metallica left the stage. The stage turned dark, but one blue spotlight
which pointed on Jaymz - "Enter Sandman" set in. After that the
orchestra played an intro till "Battery" finished the show.
That concert is not comparable with any 'ordinary' Metallica gig, apart
from that I was a bit hoarsed as usual from singing the lyrics.
(if you want you can also load up that:)
After the show we decided to go to the after show party in the Storkower
Str.. But the result was an more than two hours odysee through Berlin
(because we forget to take a city plan with us) - although we knew that
that street is near the velodrom.
On the following day before we entered the car we recognized that one
wheel was flat. Luckily the wheels weren't damaged, so we drove to the
next gas station on a street only a few minutes away from our hotel. But
it wasn't just a street it was the Storkower Str. which we didn't really
find the day before.
So I hope it wasn't the last after show party :)
All in one: The concert and also the audience was real great!
And it's more than awesome that they've played their only symphony gig
in Europe in Germany ... and I had the honor of having a ticket for it!
