As mentioned last week, all the vinyl albums will be re-released in
Europe this week. I have Load, Justice, Master, Ride and Kill (will
receive the rest later) and I must say that I am a bit disappointed by
the items.
The info I got before the release was that these would be something
special, but they're not. The covers are in regular quality and the printing is
bad. All covers have too much red and are too dark, except for the
Master cover which is too light. Many details are lost in the design
because of this, especially on Load.
The inner sleeves are OK, with good paper quality and print.
Metallica.com is mentioned on all inner sleeves. This is how you can
tell the difference between the re-release and a regular release. On Load
there are some minor changes on the label, which is the only difference.
I was glad to see that they have used the original Metallica labels on
all LPs, and that they are printed on 180-gram vinyl, but that's not so
important after the first bad impression. If you are a die hard
collector like me, you might want to pick these up. If you just want the
albums on vinyl, go to a second hand shop and buy some earlier versions
cheap. A good place to look for used and rare stuff online is Esprit.
