Well, if you are a metal freak - don't buy this album. It's not metal at all, but if you are more open minded and like alternativ music you may like this album.
Some songs kinda resembles the Beatles. To put it in a box I would describe it as blues/pop/rock. CDDB label it as general rock, well whatever, but it has a bluesy feel.
Cryin' shame includes a secrect track - playing some weird shit, called 'The Crazy Song'. Total playtime: 47:42
Kirk Hammett plays in the song called SuckerPunch which is undoubtly the best song on the record! Well, to be honest, I think the music is pretty average - no big hit songs except for SuckerPunch and maybe Colder World. You can hear violins in 'Adrift' and 'We Are Ghosts' - the S&M project really inspired Jason I guess for this album. Other instruments used:
violencello, keyboards, viola, harmonica and banjo.
I must say that I really like SuckerPunch - the whole song got a catchy feel and it got a heavy ending.
Well, these are my opinions after having the album for 2 days!
It might grew on me more, but like I said, this isn't exactly my thing.
This album IS very cool to have, afterall Jason has been in Metallica for 14 years and it proves that Jason aren't afraid to explore the music scene. He's truly a gifted muscian and want to try new things out - maybe the next album will be completely different. This album is a DRASTIC change from IR8 (death metal ). Jason isn't only in for the metal, like he himself said in the KNAC interview:
"It's not a heavy metal record, it's a musical record.", and it comes out descent.
Let's not forget about Dylan Donkin (vocals, guitars) and Brian Sagrafena (drums) either. They all are a part of echoBrain.
