ECHOBRAIN - GIG REPORT
- 19th of August
- Nadine's Wild Weekend, a showcase of Bay Area bands.

Jason Newsted played his first gig with his new band echoBrain this week. It is rumored that Lars and Bob Rock, Metallicas producer, were in the audience, but this is not confirmed. Here is a gig report by Ninette Freitas

echoBrain We arrived at the Venue about 8:00 and got there in time to see the opening act. The show was being held at Bimbo's in SF close to the Warf area. It is a nice venue great stage and dance floor. I am very bad at estimating the amount of people, but my guess would be about 300 or 400 people.

The crowd seemed excited and there were what appeared to be a lot of echoBrain family members and supporters, which was very cool. They sold T-shirts and CD's at the venue.

There was a good crew setting up for them while the crowd slowly moved to the front of the stage, Zac (Jason's Roadie) was among the crew helping to get the gang ready.

They all came out on stage to loud applause and started in on there set. I am afraid that I can not tell you what the set was as I am not that familiar with echoBrain's music yet to tell you what they played but I can tell you that they were Loud and GREAT !!! I enjoyed the music which many have commented on as kind of rock-pop with some punk/blues influences added for flavor.

Dylan Dokin (sporting a new mini-mohawk in blue, it looked good on him lol) was great on vocals and played a mean rhythm guitar, Brian puts a lot of heart and soul into his drumming (even though he was hard to see due to the way the stage was set up) and many of the songs have a awesome bass line (as expected) Jason looked happy and was obviously the most comfortable on stage. He(jason) thanked the crowd and "Nadine" for the opportunity to play, and he introduced a couple of songs.

As mentioned on the echoBrain site, they had two back up musicians with them (Chris Scianni and David Borla from Dangerman) out of New York. They made a great overall addition to the band and Chris is a great guitar player.

They came back for an encore and Dylan did a solo, it was well done, even if he was very visible nervous. They did a cover of a Moss Brothers Song (A Promise is a Promise) one of my favorites actually. The Brothers were in the audience (having also participated in "Nadine's Wild Weekend") and were very excited that echoBrain played one of their songs.

The concert ended and a lot of thanks giving out. We were all ushered outside. We waited about an hour for anyone to come out (by the time they came out we were the only ones around), we finally got the signatures of all of echoBrain. While Brian and Dylan's pals gave them shit about signing autographs and Dylan forgot how to spell his name!!! LOL it was nice of the all to take the time.

We did hear a rumor while we were waiting that Lars's and Bob Rock were there but we did not see them. We did banter with the roadies as they were loading equipment including what look like old equipment with Flotsam and Jetsam stamped on it (we know that jason has a frugal side, but how old is that equipment anyway lol just kidding)

Over all a great show and Brian did mention that they would be probably playing again locally in mid September.
