REVIEW: ACTION FIGURES
As already posted, the Metallica acction figures are now in the stores. I haven't received mine yet, but "noleafclover82" posted the following review of the figures on the message forum, and I thought it was good enough for everyone to read.

I dunno if anyone got these yet, but they are really damn cool. I've been looking forward for these figures for some time, pretty much ever since I've been into Metallica. McFarlane Toys, the company who made these, is most noted for their incredible detail while producing figures. First, I got Jaymz and Lars, and then a few days later, I chased down the other half of the band. While it's easy to see that Jaymz is the best-sculpted figure of the band, I mean, the fucker'z DEAD-ON! Right down to the stance of the figure. Here's a breakdown of each figure:

James Hetfield - Metallica Jaymz: His traditional singing pose (the gun-fighter stance) is represented here. Of course, if you've seen pixxx, he has his very-first ESP Explorer, the white one. Although it would be more acurate saying "EET FUK," "MORE BEER," or "BURRRP," it has "SO WHAT" written on it.(which of course wasn't written on the guitar until a few years later) Also, the back of the guitar is wood color and it features an ESP logo on the headstock, exactly like Papa Het's actual guitar! A small guitar pick is even in the fig's right hand! The figure itself is beautiful, right down to the skull-ring he got from Cliff!(of course the detail on the ring is minimal at best) Everything else on the sculpt is correct, except for the fact it's missing the earrings and nose-piercing that he used to wear on the the 'Damaged Justice' tour.

Lars Ulrich - Metallica Lars: Everyone's favorite (or not-so-favorite) Danish drummer looks great, too. Though, the figure's expression looks like he's droppin' some Kennys, it still looks great. The detail on his drums is top-notch, even the black drumsticks the prototype figure had are replaced by wooden-colored sticks. Of course, two of Lars' trademarks from this tour are recreated by the figure: the white headband and the spandex (which differ from the ones he wore on the '91/'91 tour for TBA). The seat for his drum stool even has the indent from his bum. Being that each band member comes with a part of Lars' drumkit (the most parts come with Lars), it's pretty shabby-looking. Right now, the final kit after buying the four individual figures, resembles the "Tuning & Attitude" room rehersal drumkit, except this one appears to be missing a few pieces. When the boxset of all four figures is released sometime in either October or November, it will include the full drumkit, complete with the double kick-drum and all the cymbols.

Kirk Hammett - Metallica Kirk: This figure looks . . . interesting. The legs and arms are REALLY thin on Hampster's figure. True enough, Hammett is skinny by nature, but maybe he was a little skinnier back on the 'Justice' tour due to his cocaine addiction he admitted to in the infamous Playboy interview. The facial sculpt is dead-on, as well. The hair looks a little poofy, maybe it resembles the 'Kill Em All For One' tour, but I've always noticed Kirk having pretty thin hair. The figure's stance is really bizarre, but I'm sure Kirk has stood like that many times during a show. One descrepincy I have with the pose is that his arms are not articulated at the elboes or wrists, as it would have made it a lot easier for the guitar to be held. Which brings me to his guitar: the famous Jackson Randy Rhodes Shark-Fin 'V' he got way back in 1985. This thing looks exactly like the real piece, friends -- right down to the Jackson logo on the headstock. Being that this is Kirk Hammett we're talking about, it would have been nice to see some sort of Horror movie design on his shirt, maybe the 'Night of the Living Dead' sleevless he wore back on that tour in photo shoots??

Jason Newsted - Metallica Jason: This figure looks great, too! In most pictures, you can't see his face because of the figure's pose. Granted, the pose is TOTALLY Jason (Hair flying in a full-on mohawk in the middle of a head-bang), but the figure looks kinda goofy like that. It would have been nice if it was able to stand up straight and another head was included featuring a hair-style not in mid-bang. Again, as with all the figures, the detail on Jason is incredible; right down to the grey-ish stubble on his head from where he used to shave out his mohawk! The facial expression is true to Mr. Newsted as well. One thing I noticed when I first saw the face of the figure was how weird it was to see him without a goatee. heheheh. His bass is sculpted in great detail, not sure what brand it is, but it looks exactly like his main bass from the 'Justice' tour. His fuckin' sneakers even have tiny logos on them, though it's extremely difficult -- if not impossible -- to tell what logo they are . . . if they're even a real company, that is.

OK, all-in-all, I give the figures a 5-star rating. Even if I wasn't a fan of the band, they are incredibly detailed and authentic to the person they portray. It would be nice for McFarlane to release short-haired versions(obviously with different sculpts) in the future, but if not, there's always people who can customize the existing ones. A new review will follow when the full collectors boxed set including stage, music and lights are released. Don't know where to buy your figures? Check out the Metallica stores here
