Well, the show took place in the Osaka-Jou (Castle) Hall, a place with very beautiful and green surroundings. Gates opened at 6 p.m., and the show actually started at about 7.20... The venue itself was kind of small, which did not allow for stuff like pyro or the like; on the other hand, that meant the stage was not far from where I was (and with my binoculars, I could see the guys VERY clearly!)
The Japanese fans have a certain fame of not being very demonstrative, but that was certainly not the case when the taped intro to "Blackened" started creeping out of the speakers and then... the Four Horsemen themselves! Maybe it would be redundant to say that they are the most powerful band on the planet, but they still are, after all these years and all the insane stuff they have been through, back then and now!!! The absolute best time I have had in my life, period! Anybody who says that Metallica are over,well... you know what I want to say:)
Besides making me and the entire arena go totally nuts with classics like Master, Horsemen, Seek and Destroy and Battery, it made me very happy to witness the enthusiasm that they displayed throughout the whole show. At some point during the first songs, it seems one of Kirks amps broke down, and James lent him one of his for the rest of the show, saying something like "we gotta always back up each other"... that was a nice moment! And Rob is a madman on stage, even in that small stage he managed to do many of his trademark moves and spins. Besides the mentioned technical problems, which really were unnoticeable, the sound was very clear and powerful. As for the setlist, I cannot really remember the order, but aside from the mentioned songs, they played Bells, Creeping Death, Sanitarium, One, Sandman, Sad but True, Nothing else Matters (which made for a nice, calm moment), Frantic, St. Anger, and for the second time ever, The Unnamed Feeling! Personally I think that was o! ne of the finest and most emotional moments of the show! As for the encore, they closed with the Ramones cover "Commando" (which NOBODY expected!) and "Breadfan". All in all, an Inmensely enjoyable and Headbang-worthy time, all yo people should do your best to check Metallica live, it is life-changing!!
