GIG REPORT
Location: Helsinki, Finland
Date: May 28,2004
Venue: Olympic Stadium
Reported By: Sami

This was my second time seeing Metallica. And I can say that they get better all the time as they get older. Last time I saw them was in 1999 but I have to say that this was the most awesome shit! They did rock the house or should I say the stadium. The opening acts Lost Prophets and Slipknot were pretty okay. Although I have to say that the crowd didnīt seem to like them too much. Response wasnīt too excited at least. There were almost 50000 people on the stadium and it is almost 1% of the Finlandīs population! Finland is definitely a country made for Metallica. As we waited Metallica to hit the stage we were shown some clips of the new film called Some Kind of Monster. Seems pretty exciting! Then it was time for Metallica. Ecstasy of Gold blew out of the speakers and the whole crowd just went nuts! After that it was time for Blackened. They cut off one part of the solo and went straight to the last verse. After that it was time for Fuel and the pyros. I have to say that the pyros were awesome but very hot also. James dedicated Harvester of Sorrow to all the fans out there. During the concert I was so happy and almost shocked! I just couldnīt believe that the guys were on the stage playing our all time favourites! Sanitarium was so awesome! Then James asked did we have our anger with us! And were sure did. Then it was time for Frantic. I think James went nuts. He played the main riff on his knees and before that they made the whole audience scream with a nice intro. Bells was as awesome as ever. Before that Rob played a nice little solo and then went straight to the intro. I noticed that James and Kirk uses different kind of guitars nowadays. James had new Explorer and Les Paul with him and Kirk had nice Flying-V. After Bells they played I Disappear which was one of the greatest songs during the night. They started the song with a nice intro and then just rocked! St. Anger was the shit and Sad but True was so heavy that everybody was just moshing and screaming. Then it was time for the old shit. First Creeping Death and then Battery! I noticed that Lars doesnīt play the double bass parts anymore which I think is kind of sad. He is getting old but still does his job very well. James played Battery with Gibson SG! Wherever I May Roam was great and after that it was time for Nothing Else Matters. Holy shit! Kirk started the song with a guitar doodle which sounded good and then played the intro. The song was so awesome. James played the solo with passion and it was an awesome version of the song. After that Master of Puppets blew out of their amplifiers. It was the most awesome version of the song Iīve never heard and I can say that Iīve heard the song couple of times. They played the whole version which was great! One and Enter Sandman were both great. James made some mistakes during One but the song and the pyros were great. Sandman made the whole crowd jump and scream. They also had some nice fireworks during the song. After that they left the stage but soon returned with a ruthless version of Jump In the Fire! I was so excited to hear the song. They played almost a note-to-note version of it! Kirk played both of the solos and it was definitely one of the greatest songs and surprises during the evening. Seek was the last song for the evening. The whole crowd screamed the chorus part and guys seemed pretty impressed. This was one of the greatest days of my life. Metallica rocks and they really dominate the world of heavy metal. It was nice to see Rob also. I noticed they have changed their live shows a bit which is very refreshing. James made jokes all the time asking if we knew how to speak english and that the crowd werenīt supposed to be louder than the band! It was great night and I hope that they come back to Finland very soon!
