GIG REPORT
Location: St. Louis, MO
Date: Sep 25, 2004
Venue: Savvis Center
Other bands: Godsmack Report: Jungk

Last night was the Metallica concert with special guest Godsmack in St. Louis. Godsmack did their job getting the crowd riled up for the mighty Metallica. I underestimated the loudness of both bands. I knew it was going to be loud, but it was really loud. When the lights went out after Godsmack, the place went crazy as expected. Ecstasy of Gold came on followed by Blackened and Fuel. There was plenty of old shit on the setlist. We got Leper Messiah and Disposable Heroes, including the full version of Master of Puppets. Two St. Anger songs and just one off of Load/Reload. A couple of encores and plenty of fireworks during One (one of the explosions was almost too loud!!!). Fade to Black and Nothing Else Matters were favorites of the crowd as well. When Seek and Destroy was finished, the band said their good-byes (Rob screamed twice in the microphone and Kirk said "fucking cheers, St. Louis", ha!). James and Lars said a few more things and then it was all over. I was so surprised when I heard this band live; tonight was my first live experience. These guys are in their early 40's and playing some of the most demanding music on the planet. However, the catch is that they're doing it with so much style and energy. It's ridiculous how good of a show they put on. James' voice is as good as ever, Lars has all the double bass stuff going, Kirk's dead on, and Rob's got the bass down. Reading other reviews about how good these guys still were and that they were at the top of their game really made me wonder how this could be true, especially with their age. But I took their advice and went to see them live. THEY WERE GOOD. Go see them on this tour.
