Hello! Friendly neighborhood ex-tab guy reporting in from his most recent
'Tallica show.
Godsmack played mostly songs from the radio, and I knew the songs that
wern't. They did a pretty sweet "instrumental" break (about 7 or 8 minutes)
with the singer playing on a second drum kit.
Metallica played a fairly normal set from the lists I've seen on this tour.
Lots of pyro. Kirk was pretty sloppy for the first hour. Robert and Kirk
played Orion during his "solo" (called Junglessence if you visit
livemetallica.com). Only new songs were Frantic and St. Anger. They played
Holier Than Thou which was only the 2nd time I'd ever heard it live. The new
Full Metal Jacket intro to One is cool. The pyro for One at the beginning
was so damn bright, hot and loud that I almost passed out. They played Jump
in the Fire and Seek and Destroy as the final encore.
Random observations by Phil:
- I noticed that Kirk didn't play the "KH-2" skull inlay guitar. He did play
his old Jackson Rhodes for Sad But True and Seek and Destroy.
- James' new Ken Lawrence explorer is cooler than the old one (sun inlay at
12 on the new one).
- I don't like James' other newer guitars though. He had a silver ESP "Les
Paul" with graphics to make it look worn in places, and a white Gibson
explorer with his tatoo graphics on it. They didn't do anything for me.
- Seek and Destroy doesn't sound better tuned to D. I'm not sure why they
decided to do that.
- Battery is still one of the kick-assingest songs in the Metallica catalog.
- I don't think Kirk will ever play a good solo to Blackened.
- Frantic is cooler live.
- Robert looks bigger on TV.
- Robert kicks more ass live.
- I caught another pick from James. This one from right after I Disappear.
They aren't using the Dunlap ones anymore. This one is white, and it seems
thinner.
- People in Cleveland smell bad. I don't like being that close to people,
and everyone I was close to smelled.
- People in the SW part of the arena had better boobs and were more willing
to show them than anyone else.
