GIG REPORT Location: Washington, DC Date: 17 Oct, 2004 Venue: MCI Center Other bands: Godsmack Report: thomas schutz
This was my first time seeing Metallica live. It was by far the best ever concert experience I have ever had. Godsmack came on stage as soon as I got inside the MCI center. They did a very good job of hyping the crowd. If you've ever seen them live you know all about their kick ass drum solos. Metallica came out to the song Ecsatcy of Gold at about 8:30. The crowd literally blew the roof off from about ten minutes. At first the sound levels seemed a little low but after all the applause stopped it was all good. The entire band made every song they played seem as natural as breathing. I was suprised to see Lars' cymbal stands were almost taller than he was. Rob had a bandaged knee and skateboarding shoes. Maybe he hurt it skating? If you can imagine a gorilla with hair down to it's waist playing bass, thats Rob in a nutshell. His solo was amazing. Kirk didn't miss a note all night. James messed up the lyrics a little in God that Failed but this is understandable because they haven't played this song since 10 years before the Madly in Anger tour. The entire show was amazing. During the two and a half hours they played I found myself close to tears three times. If you haven't got your tickets yet I would strongly suggest doing so.
