GIG REPORT
Location: Quebec City, PQ
Date: 14 Oct, 2004
Venue: Pepsi Colisee
Other bands: Godsmack
Report: Jerome "Metal Jay" Fournier

Quebec City, Night #1 - The first MetallicA performance in Quebec City since July 7, 1996 was my second time seeing MetallicA live, having seen them last year at the Summer Sanitarium.

Godsmack opened the show at about 7:30. Those guys did a really good job hyping a crowd waiting for the greatest metal band in the world. They played almost all their hits and they did their well known but impressive drum solos.

Godsmack left the stage around 8:30. About 45 minutes later, the lights faded out and the first notes of "The Ecstazy of Gold" were heard. At that time, the crowd went totally nuts... The boys then opened their set with the amazing "Blackened". Then followed "Fuel" with the traditional "Gimme an 'M', gimme an 'E', gimme a 'T', gimme a 'A', gimme an 'L'... Gimme fuel, gimme fire, gimme that which I desire!" We were then treated with the great "Harvester of Sorrow" before Kirk's first Guitar Doodle of the night. Man, that guy is a God!!! After that, came "The Unforgiven", "Frantic" (with James asking us to release the anger!!!), "King Nothing", "Holier Than Thou" and "St.Anger". By the way, "St.Anger" is definitely a live song! James then asked us to give some "Quebec Love" to their newest friend, Robert Trujillo. After saluting the crowd in french, Rob came up with his great and memorable bass solos. Wow!!! The guys then came back on stage to play the classics "Fade to Black", "Master of Puppets" and "Battery".

With the crowd chanting "Ohé, ohé, ohé, ohé... Ohé, Ohé...", the boys came back on stage for the encore with "Wherever I May Roam", more Kirk solos (Did I mention that guy is great guitarist? Well, I do now), "Nothing Else Matters" and "Sad But True". The lights then faded out and we heard the introduction to the amazing "One", with kick ass fireworks. We then heard the live classic "Enter Sandman" before James thanked Quebec for making MetallicA feel good, putting an end to the show...

But we all known it wasn't over yet. They all came back on stage, James instrumentally playing the "Ohé" chant with the crowd. They played "No Remorse" and then James asked us if we wanted one more. Of course, the answer was a big "Hell Yeah!!!" and they did "Seek & Destroy", just to make sure that you're "going home with a sore throat, ears ringing, a sore neck and a big, huge, satisfied MetallicA smile on your face, alright !?!" That was the perfect song to finish that perfect show.

The boys then thanked us all, James saying we gave our best, Rob and Kirk adding some words in french, and Lars telling us: "You guys qualify as the loudest fucking bunch of motherfuckers on this tour". Thanks again Lars, we really appreciated that. Then, they left the stage after showing us a big Quebec flag with "MetallicA Quebec Unnamed Chapter" written on it.
