Venue: Pepsi Colisee
Other bands: Godsmack
Report:Francis Nolan-Poupart
This is the gig report for the October 15th Metallica show. It took place in the Pepsi colisée, our hockey arena, which has a 15 000 capacity (we're the smallest city on the tour). This was the second of the shows, the other one had taken place the night before and the arena was packed full capacity: the tickets had all been sold in three hours! This had encouraged a second show, and we were almost full for a second night in a row: there were maybe a 100 seats left in the bad spots.
Godsmack was okay, but you could see the crowd was fidgeting for Metallica. After Godsmack was finished, there was a 15 minutes of silence when without warning the ecstacy of gold started, with scenes from the Good, the bad and the ugly on the screen. No one was really sure if the song was finished in the end when all of sudden James appear out of nowhere and Blackened started... it was just amazing. When came the time to scream "BLACKENED!" James stopped singing and everyone chanted it so loud it was defeaning. Then came fuel... with a nice intro from James "Gimme a M... gimme a E... gimme a T (etc.) then gimme fuel gimme fire gimme that which I desire!". No leaf clover sounded amazing, I had never heard it except on S and M, it's definetely their best song since the Black album. The four horsemen was amazing, but then came Sanitarium, which blew everyone's mind away at how good it sounded.&n! bsp; It was honestly just unbelievable. Ride the lightning was also very impressive, as well as St.Anger and I dissepear. James counted us in on Creeping death. in french of course! "Un, deux, trois, quatre", BAM! Creeping death was another high point in the show. After fight fire with fire (awesome, obviously), was a short pause.
Then started the mega classic-blitz. James started us on diposable heroes: Okay... you think you know every Metallica song? We say YEAH! Then James says... DISPOSABLE... we answer HEROES!!! That song was honestly mind-blowing, again everyone chanting "back to the front". You all know about the next songs, they were played at every show I think. Nothing, Master, One and Sandman were all so good I couldn't believe it. The explosions before one were deafening, and Master was just plain too much. There was then a really long cheering and clapping session for James, Robert, Kirk and Lars: they deserved it. The inevitable encore was just a little dissapointing, I was expecting fade to black, but got wasting my hate, which I dindn't really know. Seek and destroy reedeemed that.
That was the setlist, I have to mention the two solos by Kirk, just plain amazing, and the truly inspiring bass solo by Robert Trujillo, which made any doubts I had about him disseapear: the guy is amazing.
Last thing: the ambience was mind-blowing: everyone was up for the whole show and chanting all the songs non-stop, shouting non-stop. It was truly amazing.
