GIG REPORT Location: E Rutherford, NJ Date: 22 Oct, 2004 Venue: Continental Airlines Arena Other bands: Godsmack Report: Dan Calandro
This was my second time seeing Metallica; I saw them
for the first time way back in ’98 on the “Poor
Re-Touring Me” tour. As soon as I sat down in the
Continental Airlines Arena Godsmack came on, not a big
Godsmack fan but they did have a pretty cool
drum/bongo/drum solo piece that was good. They sounded
a little muddy but that was fixed by the time
Metallica hit the stage. The Ecstasy of Gold came on
over the PA and everyone flipped it was great. Every
song was great and even in their forties than can
still belt out those old songs like they were twenty.
James’s vocals were clean, Kirk shredded on the Enter
Sandman, Master of Puppets, and during his first solo
he played behind his head which is always cool. St.
Anger was even heavier and faster than on the CD.
Overall it was an awesome show and you should
definitely try to see them if Metallica is coming to
your city.
