GIG REPORT
Location: Albany, NY, USA
Date: 9 Oct, 2004
Venue: Pepsi Arena
Other bands: Godsmack
Report:Alex Downey

The concert kicked off with Godsmack. I am a HUGE fan of Godsmack as well, and I was thrilled to see them perform live. They performed some of their more popular songs like "Awake", "I Stand Alone", "Bad Religion", and "Voodoo." They got the crowd more amped up than I would have believed possible. Sully did everything, from guitar to vocals to drums. He dueled on the drums with his drummer, man was that cool. When it was time for them to give up the stage to the mighty Metallica, Sully hailed them as "the best fucking metal band that has ever existed on this planet." Damn is he right.

Metallica came on then. The explosive Blackened started it off, followed by Fuel. By this point the crowd was wild. The Four Horsemen rocked like I've never seen before, bringing all the crowd's energy into their music and blasting our asses off with their best material. Frantic came on, I'm not a fan of St. Anger material, but their perfomance of it was awesome. Following Frantic, the crowd got a real treat... James announced that they were bringing a song out that they hadn't played in a long time, four or five years. Everyone couldn't wait to hear what it was... they started playing it, and it was The Outlaw Torn!! That song means a lot to me, and to hear it live was fucking amazing. Then they played The Unforgiven, which was the fourth time they'd played it in a row on this tour. Master of Puppets and Battery were fast and furious, and the crowd was wild. Fade to Black came on, which is an icredibly powerful song anyways, but when they played it it was just fucking out of this world. Nothing Else Matters came on next, and holy shit do I love that song. Everyone's lighters were out and lit. Metallica got it right back up to full speed after that with Creeping Death, One, and Enter Sandman. Then Metallica said it was time to leave, but they didn't go anywhere and neither did the crowd. They played Jump in the Fire, and then asked if we wanted more. HELL YES, the crowd shouted! They played Seek & Destroy, and the crowd went home tired and very very happy.

The concert was amazing. I've never seen Metallica live before, and I would never hesitate to see them again. The amount of energy the crowd had mixed perfectly with Metallica's energy and created an explosive fusion of hardcore metal rocking.
