VH1 has produced the ultimate no holds barred oral history of Metallica: “When Metallica Ruled The World.” This hour-long documentary, airing Saturday, April 9 at 9:00 PM* will take you through the band’s tumultuous 24 year history, told through exclusive interviews with band members James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, Robert Trujillo- Bassist as well as Metallica’s former bassist, Jason Newsted to give fans and viewers the real story behind the band’s ups and downs. The episode will discuss everything from James Hetfield’s battle with alcohol, to Jason Newsted’s resignation and the bands subsequent journey into therapy.

VH1 plays Metallica “Metallica: Some Kind Of Monster,” premiering commercial-free, Saturday, April 9 at 10:00 PM* provides an in-depth portrait of one of the most successful heavy metal bands of all time, as they faced monumental personal and professional challenges while recording their first studio album of original songs in five years. What began as the documenting of the making of an album became an unexpected voyage into the complexities of human relationships, and the power of the creative process to exact emotional tolls and ultimately, to heal the soul. Three years in the making, this new film from acclaimed documentary filmmakers Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky (the team that created “Brother’s Keeper” and “Paradise Lost,”) follows the band’s trough the reinvention of their creative process, as well as their struggle to balance their personal lives with the demands of sustaining the multi-million dollar business they’ve spent twenty years building.
