GIG REPORT
Venue: Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari (Imola, Italy)
Event: Heineken Jammin' Festival
Date: 17 June 2006
Report by: Lorenzo Somma / mymet.too.it

Nine o'clock in the evening: after The Darkness' performance we watched the soccer match Italy-USA on the maxi-screens. Not so good...anyway we were mainly there to see Metallica!!! They had already played at this festival three years ago. The guys started to play after eleven o'clock, with a very energic Creeping Death. Then they performed Fuel and Wherever I May Roam. After that, Jaymz announced a new song, which they played. It's a quite long song, with changements of tempos and styles, sometimes heavy, sometimes more "nu". Another great moment in the show was a short sequence of words written on the screens and spoken by James, announcing that they would have played the album Master of Puppets "in its entirety" to celebrate his 20th aniversary. And so they did: the whole album, from Battery to Damage, Inc.; it was great to hear the classics but also those songs rarely played on stage, like Leper Messiah or Disposable Heroes. Metallica tried to play the 8 songs the most similarly to the original record, and I think they managed to do that. Also James sang very well. After "Orion", James said "God bless Cliff Burton" and sent a kiss to the sky. And after the 8 songs, a picture of Cliff with his name and dates of birth and death appeared to honour him.

Metallica concert ticket It wasn't finished. They delighted us with other classics: Sad But True, Nothing Else Matters, One...and they ended the show with "Last Caress" and "Seek & Destroy". Then James thanked all the crew, as this was the last date of this short European Tour. Kirk tried to say something in Italian but the result was quite funny (nice try anyway), and also Rob Trujillo made fun of him! Finally Lars assured us: "It's great to have our last show here in Italia! We'll see you next year with a new record and a new tour!" And that's what we all hope.
