I just counted, I have 25 different Metallica tribute CDs in my collections, and of all these this is the disc with the most original theme. "... And Christmas for all" is Metallica songs played in Christmas style, yes in Christmas style with bells and other holiday instruments. Of all strange Metallica release, this one takes the gold medal and I like it.
No you cannot bang your head to it, nor can you play your ear guitar or sing along, but if you have your old family members who hate metal over at Christmas time put it on your player and enjoy in silence.
As with all tribute albums Metallica has nothing to do with it. They are not playing anything on the album, nor have they agreed on anything. Still this is a good release with a super package and liner notes. Better than most similar albums. Yes it is probably released to make some easy cash, but it is still among my five favourite tributes.
It starts of quiet with "Nothing else matters" and continues with "For whom the bell tolls". Best track in "Master of puppets" where the bells are so loud and fast that I am sure Rudolf and his friends would run faster than ever.
Buy it if you have some spare change or don't bother. I don't think the album will be as cool in January. Rock your Christmas! Sound samples here.
