Kirk Hammett interview

Metallica are holding a low key these days but Kirk has been interviewed by the Swedish guitar magazine FUZZ. He is talking about his new signature Randall amp. The interview is in Swedish but here is a few lines for you.

Metallica in Fuzz magazine Kirk has many different amps and is a collector. "I have Marshallamps from almost every year they have been released. Kitchen Marshall and Park as well. I also have one of the first Hiwatt amps ever made. The first amp I got was an old Randall bass amp. The sound was bad but it was cheap and gave some cool feedback and was load. No 30 years later I have my own Randall signature model with my name on it. It is good looking with solid maple cabinetry and I have done everything possible to get the sound right. Randall sent me 3 amps every week and I listened to them all and told they which one was the best. The result is now available for every guitar player."

He also talks a bit about the new album. "The next album will be a lot more riff based then St. Anger. It will be more dynamic and have a lot of guitar solos. One of the songs have so many changes that it feels like a long solo."

And about Rick Rubin the new producer: "We had to do something new. We meet Rick for the first time in 1986 when he came backstage with a demo of the new Slayer album, "Reign in blood". I remember thinking that this was some of the best I had ever heard."

"The songs have been written in the same way as we did the St. Anger album. We jam in the studio and make the songs together. We also recorded 50 hours of jams while we were touring and these have made the bits and pieces of the new album. The lyrics came later and this time James is dealing with them alone again."
