=== "BAY ARE THRASHERS" story so far ==============================
Metallica Fight Early Bootleg Release

Metallica have sent cease-and-desist letters to a number of distri-
butors in an attempt to halt the release of an early bootleg recording
of their music entitled Bay Area Thrashers.

The album, created from a 1982 demo recording by an early version of
the band featuring ex-guitarist Dave Mustaine, was described by
several sources as a low-quality recording.

Lars Ulrich said it was a poorly recorded demo tape tricked up with
additional stage patter and fake audience noise," said band lawyer
Howard King of L.A. firm King, Purtich, Holmes, Paterno & Berliner.
The disc is the "No life 'til leather" demo tape with crowd noice and
song intros from the first Metallica homevideo "Cliff 'em all".

King said the firm has sent cease-and-desist letters to several
persons who they believe are responsible for attempting to distribute
the recording in the United States and Europe.

Didi Bingham of Cargo Records America, a domestic distributor of 100s
of independent labels, said Cargo had received an import version of the
album last summer from a British label called Outlaw Records. "We've
listened to it," Bingham said, "and it's not the best recording."

At least one Bay Area record store, Aquarius Records, had copies of the
Outlaw Records version of the album in stock, although a clerk said
they were down to their last copy.

Outlaw Records could not be reached for comment.

"The band objects to this because it's a bad record, and if it's
promoted as something that Metallica has endorsed, that's bad for
their reputation," King said. "You can say a lot of things about
Metallica, but they do release quality music, and there are people out
there trying to trade on their good name with lousy material."

King said the band's management has already contacted the British
Phonograph Institute and its American equivalent, the Recording
Industry Association of America, to help stop the distribution of Bay Area
Thrashers.

Molson Amphitheatre
Toronto, ON

the toronto show was just toooooo sweeeet! it kicked off with days of the
new and from there to jerry and they got the crowd ready for the boys.
Metallica entered into a sold out molson amphitheater and started right in
to helpless. It was not until after the long master of puppets that james
spoke to the crowd. kirk played his little solo and then metallica fed us
the "fuel" with huge fire pots to match. james got us singing the memroy
remains" and then öf wolf and man", "nothing else matters", and "the thing
that should not be" the unplugged part of the show was great the new "four
horsemen"was excellent and "motorbreath"was good as well. after fucking
around with us metallica plugged back in and played "one followed by
"where ever i may rome" and "Enter Sandman"james made us beg for
"creeping Death"and then it was over. "so let it be written so let it be
done"
