EDITORIAL. Here we are again Metallifriends. I just found the "Bay
area thrashers" CD in an ordinary record shop here in Norway. Metal-

=== GIG REPORT =======================================================
24 June 1998
WestPalmBeach,FL, USA

The Budweiser Concert Series presents METALLICA with special guests
DAYS OF THE NEW and JERRY CANTRELL on June 24th 1998 at Coral Sky
Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Metallica makes there way through the US once again, with their first
date here in South Florida. The concert started promptly at 6:30PM with
opening act Days of the New, who performed an inspired 30min
set of acoustic grunge to an appreciative crowd starting to make their way
in. After a brief intermission Alice in Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell
and his new band Boggy Depot took to the stage, intertwining songs from
his first solo album with a few well known Alice in Chains songs, and
closing their 35min set with a crowd rousing rendition of Pink Floyd's
"Brain Damage".

As the sun made it's way over the horizon, the house lights went off and
the opening notes of "Esctasy of Gold" came over the PA..the band took the
stage to 18,000 screaming maniacs, and launched into "Helpless"..and we
were off!!

Guitars ringing, drums pounding, lights blaring, Metallica was back! Only
after the long version of "Master of Puppets" did James Hetfield make his
first introductions to the crowd.."Were gonna play some shit that you may
have not heard in a while.." says he, and commences with "Of Wolf and Man"
and "The Thing That Should Not Be", with featured extended solos from
Kirk..Kirk jammed for a few moments before pouring on the "Fuel", complete
with four fire pots that shot up
from the stage. After the smoke cleared, the lighters came out for "The
Memory Remains" and a well done "Bleeding Me". Kirk and Jason played a
few bars of 'Where the Wild Things Are' before two more lighter specials,
"Nothing Else Matters" seguing into "Until it Sleeps"..they kept the pace
with two more favorites, "King Nothing" and "Wherever I May Roam" before
the lights went dark, and the bombs starting exploding all around us..'I
can't remember anything'..we then we were all "One"...when the guns
stopped, 18,000 were torched alive..as we "Fight Fire With Fire"

After a short break, a smaller drum set appeared downstage and the band
returned with acoustic guitars..they settled on stools around the drums
and played "Low Mans Lyric" ,a slowed down "The Four Horsemen" ("See if
you can figure out what the next one is" says James beforehand) and "Last
Caress", which sounded like 50's style rockabilly.

Electric guitars were once again donned..and they brought the house down
for a final time with "Sad But True", "Enter Sandman" (featuring most of
the pyrotechnics of the whole show) and closing with a rousing "Creeping
Death"..so let it be written, so let it be done..Metallica has once again
rocked the house!
