==== BACK CATALOG SALES ===========================================
According to Billboard, Metallicas black album was the 3rd most 
selling back catalog title last year. Not bad. "My Own Prison" by 
Creed leads the pack, followed by Dixie Chicks' "Wide Open Spaces" 

If you sum up all albums by the artist the list looks like this. 
Creed moves up from second place last year to become the No. 1 pop 
catalog artist for 2001. Kenny G is second, and Dixie Chicks are 
third. Last year's leader, Metallica, comes in fourth.

The place to find second hand goods online, currently having 2514 
different Metallica related listed from various sellers. Here you 
will find everything from the official Metallica skateboards to 
almost every rare album, single, promo or CD. A tip to win an auction 
is to decide what you're willing to pay and then add a few cents. If 
your max is $26, put in something like $26.07. this is because many 
people bid in nice round numbers. Second tip is to bid only once and

==== TMC IS HISTORY ===============================================
From blabbermouth.net: unconfirmed reports indicate that The Music 
Company, the record label imprint headed by Lars Ulrich which 
released Systematic's debut, Somewhere In Between, last year, has 
ceased to exist. Systematic's next studio effort tentatively due to 
be issued through TMC's former parent company, Elektra Records. The 
Music Company was founded in 1998 and at one time boasted a roster 
that included DDT, Goudie and Brand New Immorals. 

This probably means that Lars will concentrate more on Metallica and 
his family. Gene Simmons from Kiss also started his own record 
company some years ago, Simmons Records, but had to stop as well as 
it took too much time. 



==== ECHOBRAINS RELEASEDATE =======================================
On March the 5th Surfdog/Chophouse records will release the debut CD 
from Jason Newsteds new band Echobrain. This will be a new chapter 
in Jasons life. he recorded the album together with bandmates singer
and guitarist Dylan Donkin and drummer Brian Sagrafena in June 2000, 
seven months before he left Metallica. All time hero Kirk Hammett is 
also contributing on the disc, together with ex-Faith No More guitarist 
and old fried of Jason, Jim Martin. 

"It's contemporary rock, and there's all kinds of flavors to it,
"Newsted said recently. "Metallica was meticulous perfection, 
regimented so that everything had to be exactly fucking perfect when 
we got down to the studio. With Echobrain, everybody played in the 
room at the same time, and it was more of a jam-oriented record. We 
let a lot of things fly, and the human factor was very present." 
Jason told VH1 last week. 

"I like to call it 'tomorrow music' because I like to think it's a 
little bit different than anything else out there," he said. "Ten out 
of 10 people who hear it say, 'It's not what we expected, but it's 
magic.' People expect there to be Cookie Monster vocals and noisy, 
thudding death-metal bullshit, and it's just not that. It's very 
musical and very beautiful." 

In the same interview Newsted stressed that Echobrain are a genuine 
band, not a solo vehicle or a throwaway side project. "I've got 
hundreds of thousands of dollars invested in this. It's a real record 
with real players. When we formed Echobrain, the deal was that 
everybody comes to the table with whatever they have to offer. 

He also admits he misses Metallica. "The feeling that we got when we 
clicked as a band — coming down on the chord in the same place, 
stopping in the same place, creating this point/counterpoint, action/
reaction — there's nothing like that," he said. 

What Newsted doesn't miss, however, is the politics and the frustration. 
"Metallica has two control freaks," he said, referring to James 
Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich, "and it's very hard to get any 
kind of two cents in that monopoly. When it came time to do Echobrain 
and I got to call the shots on some different production ideas, it 
felt really good." The CD has up until now only been available as a
limited edition promo disc.
