==== S&M MULTI PLATINUM ===========================================
The S&M album has already received the Record Industry Association of
America awards multi-platinum certifications for album sales of two
million units in the US. The S&M album has sold 6 million copies so far in
the US alone.




==== METALLICA NOMINATED ==========================================
Tower Records, the world's largest independent music and entertainment
retailer in partnership with IOM (Integrated Outsource Marketing) announce
the nominees for this year's 23rd 
Bammies'', officially renamed the
Tower Records California Music Awards.

The gala awards ceremony recognizing the significant musical contributions
made by California artists will be held Saturday, April 8, 2000, starting
at 7:30 p.m. at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco. 

Metallica is nominated in 4 categories 
    - Outstanding hard rock / Heavy metal album - "S&M"
    - Outstanding guitarist - Kirk Hammett 
    - Outstanding bassist - Jason Newstead 
    - Outstanding drummer - Lars Ulrich 




==== ENCYCMET.COM THE LARGEST MET SITE ============================
Yepp, that's correct. We are the largest Metallica site on the net, at
least we are bigger than the official metallica.com site, and I have never
seen anyone near our numbers. 

Our stat's are not so easy to read as I have the site on 3 servers
(encycmet.com, encyclopedia-metallica.com and free-stuff-explorer.com),
but we are getting more visitors to our main page than the official site.
Another thing to mention is that our traffic is growing fast while
metallica.com is dropping week by week.

So what is the second line? Well, I will continue to work as hard as I can
to be even better and bigger. Thanks to all my visitors, you mean a lot to

==== MORE SYMPHONY SHOWS ON CD ====================================
Just when you thought that "S&M" would be the only symphony CD released,
another 4CD set pops up called "Metallica with the Orchestra of St.
Luke's"! 

This is not a new major release that will be available in you local record
shop, but a "radio CD" made by SFX Radio network in the US. I'll try to
explain. SFX is a network of many radio stations across northern America,
and they broadcasted this show on the various of stations on November the
26th and 28th last year. To distribute shows like this they print them
completely on CDs and send them to to the stations. 

OK, this is a 4CD set with the complete gig, but it includes more,
interviews, talking and even the commercials which makes the playing time
more than 3 hours. You will find some really interesting interviews here
with the band members, Michael Kamen and the players in the orchestra. 

The CD set comes with four prints with information, one for each CD, and a
plastic bag. No tracklisting. The show is also on the CD as one track, so
you can not skip from song to song. 

The show is good, sometimes I like it even better than "S&M" as Metallica
are louder compared with the orcestra, but James' voice is not always at
his best. 

I am not sure how many copies excist, maybe 50, and I don't know if I will
recomend it as it is kind of expensive. I got my copy from Esprit. They
got 2 copies from their contact and still have one copy left. Get it while
you can, and tell them that I sent you. See images, and link to Esprit on

==== ENDS YEAR OLD BATTLE =========================================
Metallica's year-long battle with Victoria's Secret over lip pencils has
finally come to an end. 

Although the details of the settlement are under seal, a source says that
Metallica is happy with the settlement that was reached and that a
mutually agreeable compromise was made. The final papers on the agreement
were signed off by the band this week, according to the band's attorney,
Jill Pietrini, of Manatt, Phelps, & Phillips, LLP. 

The band filed a lawsuit in the California Western Division of United
States District Court back in January of last year (allstar, Jan. 15,
1999) against Victoria's Secret and Victoria's Secret Catalogue, citing
trademark infringement, false designation of origin, unfair competition,
and dilution over lip pencils bearing the mark "Metallica."
