officially will see the light of day. It is not released yet, and we are
still already having news/rumors about the next album! If you like this

==== DR. DRE PRODUCES METALLICA? ==================================
Metallica have been speaking to Kerrang! magazine about their next album.
Guitarist Kirk Hammett revealed that he wanted Dr Dre - whose '2001' has
just been released - to produce the album. They say that they like what
the ex-NWA man did with Eminem, though they aren't planning to "go hip-hop
or anything". 

But when they said the same thing at the MTV Music Awards in 1996, a
reporter from MTV told Dre, who retorted: "Well I don't wanna work with
them!" 

Their other choice was ex Roxy Music/U2 producer Brian Eno. 

The album will be recorded in the summer of 2000 after a six month break.

==== METALLICA IN TV COMMERCIAL ===================================
Metallica was the star in a new "ArtistDirect.com" commercial. It was on l
ast night while I was watching VH-1's "The Rock Show" (they're playing a
new S&M video each night). The commercial starts with the British guy from
Monty Python (I don't remember his name) outside the door to the main
studio at "The Plant". He says something about asking Metallica about
their new site at artistdirect.com. He walks in while the entire band is
jamming in the studio, and everyone yells at him "Hey, you can't be in
here!" (Even Bob Rock!) The guy asks his question "So how boss is your new
site at artistdirect.com?" and James says "Lets show him" and they start
jamming and blow him out of the room. 

It was sort of strange seeing Metallica in a commercial at 1:00 in the
morning.

==== GIG REPORT ===================================================
DATE: Nov 19, 1999
PLACE: Berlin, Germany (Velodrom) 
NOTE: Metallica and symphony

the crowd was well mixed at the only european date of the (tragically
short!) current S&M tour.

Englich was spoken, american, french, italian, and of course some german
was heard. All ages from 16-60 were represented,  and black tie was seen
in contrast to leather.

The atmosphere was something special.Of course ballads like "Nothing else
matters" , "Bleeding Me", and "The Memory Remains"  came over more
convincingly and in the spirit intended, but the ochestra and Michael
Kamen also really grooved with "Of Wolf and Wolf and (her)Man ", "The
Thing that Should Not Be", and "Fuel".

A few times the orchestra had trouble keeping up with Lars, but they
managed to catch the groove quickly, and the openings to"One" and
"Battery" were tight and mean.

Everyone took a bow together at the end of the evening, and judging by the
smiles on the faces of the musicians, everyone had a grand time. I
certainly did.

All in all, thier musical/songwriting abilities, creativity, and the fun
these guys have with thier music goes to prove the old saying: Metallica
is the greatest band on earth. (......and James Hetfield was born to make
music.)

This is music that will be mentioned in the future in connection with
names like  The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, and who knows? Bach,
Wagner? :-)

Lars thanked the crowd for 15 years of playing Germany, (...back in the
days...) and the lights went on.

What will they do next? Looking forward to the gig on the 31st of
December.....
