==== GIG REPORT ====================================================
DATE: July 24
CITY: Rome, NY, USA
VENUE: Woodstock Festival
ATT: Approx 180.000

There was about 180,000 people watching Metallica when they came
on after Rage Against the Machine. The crowd was not particpating as much
as they usually do (I guess there were not as many die hards fans as there
would be at a Metallica Concert) and Metallica did not seem to be at there
best because of this but it was live Metallica so it still kicked ass!

The only song the entire crowd got into was " Nothing Else Matters. " The
band came out to there usual entrance song than began to play. I was a
little "disoriented" from beverages so the order might not be exact.

First Set
   "So What"
"Master of Puppets " ( sadly the short version)
   "For Whom the Bell Tolls"
   "Fuel"
   "King Nothing"
   "Bleeding Me"
   "Sad but True"
   "Turn the Page"
during this song a small thunderstorm passed which made it
eerie and the crowd threw empty plastic bottles.)
   "Wherever I may Roam"
   "One" (Awesome)
   "Fight Fire with Fire"
in the middle Kirk played a long solo I have not heard before
and then James asked if we were still alive.) After this they
       went off stage.

The crowd screamed " We want more!" and they came back out

Set Two
   "Nothing Else Matters"
   "Creeping Death"
   "Seek and Destroy"

They went back off stage. A lot of the crowd left thinking that they were
done, I knew better and finally got right up front!

Set 3
   "Die, Die My Darling"
   "Enter Sandman"

Kirk threw some guitar pics out, James thanked everyone and the lights
went out. We chanted again "We want More" The lights came back on after a
couple of minutes. Kid Rock was on the stage sharing a Corona Beer with
Kirk and Lars. Then James came back out and said they had time for one
more. He started to play Until it Sleeps and asked if we wanted it fast or
slow. He said scream if you want it fast. A loud roar happened and he went
into "Battery" After Battery he thanked the audience. Then Kirk did the
same. Lars said "I guess you can play as long as you want when you are the
last band for the night" and threw out the rest of his drink to the crowd.
He said see you back in Woodstock in 5 years and that was it. Metallica
was the main reason I went to Woodstock 99 and I am glad I went.
