==== BOOTLEG REVIEW ================================================
TITLE: Metallica - Live at the Blindmans Ball

This is a double CD that was recorded live in Stuttgart on 23.08.97. The

ass too.

==== KIRK ON THE NEW ALBUM =========================================
Metallica have revealed plans to release a live album and video of their
shows with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. Guided by renowned
composer Michael Kamen, the band played with around 100 musicians on April
21 and 22, in the Berkeley Community Theatre.

Guitarist Kirk Hammett exclusively told Kerrang!: "We still have to listen
to the tapes of our mobile truck recordings and the film footage, to
figure out whether they're palatable, but there's a pretty good possibilty
that we might release it. On the actual nights I was absolutely amazed at
how great it felt. It was totally awe-inspiring, and turned our music into
symphony pieces. Everything sounded much bigger - and heavier!"

Hammett expects the album and video to see the light of day before the end
of this year. "As to whether it'll be a double or whatever," he adds,
"it's too early to say. It'll however be many tracks we can fit on a CD!
We did 18 or 19 songs a night - it was the regular Metallica live set,
really. We might leave some songs off, or do the entire concert,"

The sets featured the rarely aired instrumental 'Call Of Ktulu', plus 'The
Outlaw Torn' which had never previously been played live. Metallica also
unveiled two new tracks, 'Minus Human' and 'No Leaf Clover'.

"They were literally two or three weeks old when we play 'em live," notes
Hammett. "Minus Human is pretty heavy, while 'No Leaf Clover' is more
melodic. It has really good lyrics and a great hook-line. All of us have
tons of ideas and uncompleted bits of music. After all the touring we'll
take a short break, then start throwing ideas around for a new album.
It'll be the first time we've gone through the writing stages since 1995!"

Hammett and bandmate James Hetfield recently found time to contribute to
the new Primus album 'Anti-Pop'. "James and I play rhythm guitar on a
cover of David Bowie's 'Fame'," says Kirk. We're two of many musicians on
that album: there's Rob Zombie, Jim Martin, Fred Durst, Tom Morello and
more. We've been friends with Primus for a long time - we're always
hanging out together and in each other's beds!"

It was a very hot day in Minden. Opening was at 12:30 and we stood at
the entrance two hours ago, so we were one of the first who entered the
Weserufer. We stood in the middle in front of the stage where we had a
very good sight on the stage! At 15:00 when the show actually should
beginn a guy entered the stage and said that Monster Magnet canceled
because the frontman was hoarsed and everybody who was only going to
this gig to see Monster Magnet (ok, I like "Powertrip", but it was not
SO improtant to see them) could hand over his ticket to the ticket
window for getting his full money back before the first band began to
play. Naturely nobody did!

Finally at 15:00 Sepultura enterd the stage and stayed there for about
an hour! I thought they would only tour with Metallica in Middle- and
Southamerica, but not in Europe. But fortunately they did! They played a
lot of their new songs from the 'Against' album like:"Against", "Choke",
"Old Earth", but they played old songs like:"Refuse Resist", "Roots",
"Attitude" (etc.) , too. The crowd was poging, jumping and screaming.
Derrick Green (the new frontman) was sometimes playing guitar and he did
a lot background percussion. You can say what you want when you say
something like:"Sepultura is bad without Max" all I can say is that
Derrick kicks ass! Sepultura said something in german and the crowd
screamed although sometimes they did not understand what they said.
Andreas Kisser was wearing a shirt of one of the german football clubs.
In the middle of one song the roadcrew took a few more drums on the
stage and everybody of Sepultura changed from playing guitars into
playing the percussions! Unfortunately they did not play "Ratamahatta".
But it's good that I've seen one of favourites bands there, too!

When the Sepultura backgroundflag have been taken off, an new flag was
in the background. It showed a red old Metallica logo crossed and under
it was written Bloodhound Gang. The crowd booed them out. When they
played almost one hour a lot of people hold their hands in the air
showing 'Fuck YOU' so the frontman said:"Fuck you!" and we said:"Fuck
you!" back, but almost everybody was jumping to the music and between
each song we sang loud "the roof, the roof, the roof is on fire" untill
they played that song. It was real fun! Sometimes they used some parts
of other band's lyrics and one time the frontman even used the lyrics of
one of Metallica's songs (I guess it was "Bleeding Me") - and everybody
screamed!

Well, Ministry ... it was the loudest band with the shortest gig. But it
was real fun when the power of the e-guitars was switched off in the 3rd
or 4th song. The frontman was pissed off and threw an empty bottle of
his wine he was drinking on stage after the roadcrew!

As I said the day was hot, but when the intro of "The good, the bad and
the ugly" set in and finally METALLICA entered the stage the crowd was
like a melting pot! They began with "Breadfan". And then James
said:"Good to be here in Minden!" - the crowd screamed. Right after this
"Master of Puppets" began and they even played the 'only-bass' parts
and the whole song! All screamed on the "Master, Master" -part. After
Jaymz's typical "Master of Puppets -laughing" at the end of the song
Jaymz said something like this: "When he is forgetting the lyrics then
we should sing instead of him!". "Of Wolf and Man" was the next song.
Jason said we should bawl like wolfs before the "I feel the chance -
back to a better day" -part. After this Kirk was doodling a little
untill he set in with the "The Thing That Should Not Be" intro. After
"Thingy" Kirk did a short guitar doodle. Then the other Metallica-guys
came back up to the stage and Jaymz screamed "Gimme fuel, gimme fire
gimme that which I desire !" and 10 big red flamepillars blizzed on the
stage (four on each side of the stage and 2 behind the drumkit)!
Everybody screamed! Right after it "The Memory Remains" set in and
everybody was screaming the lyrics. On the "Lalala -part" the band
stopped playing and the crowed sang as loud as they could. And at the
end of this song nobody really wanted to stop singing this part! It was
real great! After this everybody of Metallica were leaving the stage
except Jaymz who stand in front of a few amps and begann playing the
intro of "Bleeding Me". And the other bandmembers set in. Like in all
the other songs everybody was joining James in singins the lyrics! After
this song Lars and James left the stage. Jason and Kirk were sitting on
the stairs to the drumkit. Jason played "My Friend Of Misery" and Kirk
set in playing the intro of this song. Jason and Kirk played a few more
solos before James and Lars were re-entering the stage for playing "The
Four Horsemen". After that song they started playing "For Whom The Bell
Tolls". That song was really great, too! Metallica changed a lot of
their guitars on this gig and in this song for example Kirk played on
his "mummy-guitar". After this song Jason started playing the bass intro
of "King Nothing". The crowed joined screaming "Where's your crown King
Nothing?" - part. After a short silence (but everybody still screaming)
set the "Wherever I May Roam" - citar-intro in. Everybody was singing
the lyrics and screamed "wherever I may roam"! After that song gunfire
set in and everybody knows what it mean ... Yes, "ONE"! Loads of pyros
set in and everybody screamed! When Jaymz was singing "Landmine!" one
more big pyro explode beside the drumkit! It was great! The intro of
"Fight Fire With Fire" faded in. And at the first time james was singing
"Fight Fire With Fire" two big red flames came out the stage behind the
drumkit. After this song Metallica said "Thank you Minden !" and left
the stage. Everybody repeated screaming "Zugabe!" and "Metallica". Then
one of the roadcrew put a stoll behing Jaymz's microphone and we knew
that they'll enter the stage again and that they'll probably play
"Nothing Else Matters". A lot of people hold up their lighters or at
least their hand waving to the music. After that "Sad But True" set in!
Everybody joined the band screaming "Hey! ... They! .. Do !" (etc.) and
"Sad But True!". Creeping Death was the next song. With the real great
"DIE! DIE! DIE!" part. After that song Metallica left the stage for the
scond time.... They waited more time than when they first left the stage
till they begann with "Die Die Die my Darling". Everybody screams and
joined singing! The stage turned dark and blue before "Enter Sandman"
begann. There was one big pyro which exploded before one verse! Real
great! After this song "Battery" begann! It was unfortunately the last
song. Jaymz said "Maybe we'll see again some time!". It was a real great
show! So all I can say about it is "I WILL definetly see them again when
they are touring in the vicinity!".

After show: When we heared Metallica in the car on our way back home,
(when I was still a little bit deaf and out of power) I sometimes
wondered if it's the same band we've just listened to live. Because it's
definetly not comparable! So if Metallica is touring in your vicinity:
BUY A TICKET AND SEE THEM LIVE!!!
