Nothing Else Matters (Hetfield/Ulrich)

The song "Nothing Else Matters" was the third single release of the black "Metallica" album and the first single release of the "S&M" album as "Nothing Else Matters '99" and both times it reached the top of the charts.

It was relased as S&M's first single as "Nothing Else Matters '99" on January 4, 2000 with the b-sides of the S&M version of "For Whom The Bells Toll", "-Human" and "Until It Sleeps".

The orchestration:
The orchestration which can be heared in the song was directed by Michael Kamen who also directed and conducted the orchestration for Metallica's symphony shows.


The video:
The video "Nothing Else Matters" was premiered on Mtv on February 26, 1992. The video which was directed by Adam Dublin consists of parts of the "A year and a half..." video tape which was shot during the recordings of the black "Metallica" album.


The covers:

The bands "Apocalyptica" and "Die Krupps" covered "Nothing Else Matters" for tribute albums.


Why James wrote this song:
"Nothing Else Matters" was inspired by one of Jaymz's ex-girlfriends, but in the meantime when he is looking back he doesn't know how. By now it means more to him that the song is about their fans.


Song interpretation (assumed):
It is simply a song dedicated to loved ones.
